Celebrate Tech on St. Patrick's Day?

St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow and in honor of this holiday we’ll take a look back at three tech related inventions Ireland and those with Irish decent have contributed to the world.  Because, St. Patrick’s Day should be more than eating green bagels or having a nice Irish beer (if you’re 21+ of course!) so let’s also celebrate these inventions that truly helped advance our society.

    • The Tractor: Harry Ferguson was a bicycle repair man who had a strong interest in mechanics. He was the inventor of the tractor—a machine that made agricultural tasks much easier and less manual labor centric. Harry also invented the first four-wheel drive Formula One racing car—how cool!

    • Color Photography: John Joly was the first to invent the color photograph all the way back in 1894. Though this isn’t when it became well known, it was the beginning of the color photography movement. We’re especially thankful for this invention; it has allowed us to come up with state of the art color cameras in our ZTE devices!

    • The Submarine: John Philip Holland was an Irish engineer who invented the world’s first submarine. Holland’s first submarine was commissioned in 1900 by the US Navy and truly changed the way the Navy was able to operate, allowing them to carry out tasks in a more stealthy and versatile way.

As you’re walking about the parade tomorrow or filling up on your beverage of choice, remember these three inventors as they changed the world forever.
